Bulk Item & Yard Waste Disposal 2024

Starting in Spring 2024 the bulk item and yard waste collections in Eau Claire, Altoona, and surrounding areas will no longer be available for free.

* Village of Fall Creek, Augusta, and Village of Fairchild residents are NOT affected by this change. You should reach out to your municipality directly for program dates and information. *

Items Banned from Landfill

The following items are banned from being disposed off in Wisconsin landfills and should be disposed of through proper channels.

Electronics

Cell phones
Computers – desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet
Computer monitors
Computer keyboards and mice
Computer scanners
Computer speakers
Desktop printers (including those that fax and scan)
DVD players, VCRs, DVRs and all other video players
External hard drives
Fax machines
Flash drives/USBs
Other items that plug into a computer
Televisions

Appliances

Vehicle Items

Lead-acid vehicle batteries
Tires
Used oil filters
Waste oils

Yard Materials

Grass clippings
Debris and brush under 6" in diameter
Leaves

Traditional Recycling Items

Plastic bottles and jars (#1, & #2) (Eau Claire county also accepts #5 plastics)
Aluminum containers
Bi-metal cans
Glass containers
Tin cans
Paper and cardboard products including newspaper, magazines, and office paper.

If you are not able to take items to be properly disposed of you can schedule a curbside pickup time option with your waste hauler for a fee or utilize one of the many junk removal companies located in the area.

Yard Waste

All Eau Claire County residents have access to the City of Eau Claire brush site located at 5710 Jeffers Road, Eau Claire. Those who reside outside of the City are not eligible for a season pass and will use the "pay as you go" rates.

Earthbound Environmental Solutions: Earthbound will continue to collect yard waste year round from both their current customers (those paying for regular curbside waste collection service) as well as non-customers. For the 2024 Spring Bulk Yard Waste collection, which Earthbound has set for the week of May 6th-10th, those participating in Earthbound's regular curbside services will be allowed to place up to 10 bags at their curb free of charge. The 2024 Fall Bulk Yard Waste collection is scheduled for the week of November 11th-15th with customers allowed to place up to 5 bags at their curb free of charge. Home Composter Sale 2024 is closed.

You can order your Home Composter bin now until January 26th. Bins will be $57 and new this year stainless steel kitchen pails will also be available for $21. This is sale is open to everyone and is not restricted to Eau Claire County residents.

Those purchasing a bin should plan on picking up their bin on Saturday, May 4th from 8AM-12PM at the Eau Claire County Expo Center (5530 Fairview Drive, Eau Claire) in Barn C. A select number of bins will be available for sale during the pick up date on a first come basis. Recycling Ordinance

Title 12 Transportation and Public Works- Chapter 12.73

12.73.001 Purpose. It is the purpose of this chapter to establish rules for extending the useful life of county landfill sites by reducing the amount of refuse placed in landfills, for the conservation of natural resources, and for energy savings. (Ord. 135-72, Sec. 4, 1991)
