How Treatment Courts Work

Our process utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to review referrals, gather information and make acceptance determinations based on screening and assessment results.

The team process includes administration of the COMPAS and mental health and substance abuse assessments.

The team determines whether a referred person qualifies for a treatment court and, if so, the most appropriate court to meet the person’s needs.

Treatment courts uses a unique whole person and collaborative approach between human services and the criminal justice system. Teams can include judges, department of corrections, district attorneys, public defenders, physicians, case managers, therapists, peer support system, and workforce development. Together they work to help citizens get their lives back on track.

Branch 1: Alternatives to Incarcerating Mothers (AIM)

Primarily serves mothers in Eau Claire County with co-occurring substance use disorders.

Branch 3: Mental Health and Substance Use

Primarily serves individuals with co-occurring disorders with misdemeanor and/or felony charges 

Branch 5: Substance Abuse Primary

Primarily serves individuals in Eau Claire County with substance use diagnoses and felony level convictions.

Chippewa Valley Veterans Treatment Court

Serving veterans living in Dunn, Chippewa and Eau Claire Counties.

All referrals to an Eau Claire County Treatment Court must be made through submission of a Treatment Court Referral Form. All fields with an asterisk (*) must be completed in order for the submission to be accepted. Note that other incomplete fields may delay a final determination regarding the referral. If all fields are complete, and the referred person responds to outreach efforts, the Treatment Court Triage Team generally will determine the final disposition of a referral (i.e., whether the referred person will be accepted into a treatment court and, if so, which court) within 4 weeks of submission.

The WI State ID No. is the number assigned by the State Identification Bureau upon receipt of a criminal fingerprint card. If a COMPAS assessment already has been completed, the WI State ID No. may be found on the results of the assessment (if a COMPAS assessment has not been completed, please do not request one).
